They offered to do the job -- cleaning out the stopped up kitchen sink drain -- for the flat rate of $300. I told them I had previously hired Len the Plumber to do the job last time I had a plugged drain. They quoted $250, but when their 20' long snake wouldn't reach the clog, they brought in the 30' snake for another $100. Mech replied that they use a different system, with a series of 7' long sections that can be added as needed and the price wouldn't go higher. Several attempts proved futile, and the plumber started cutting holes in my lower level wall and ceiling to find the drain pipe. Then I noticed a leak coming from a light fixture and an HVAC vent in that lower level. That prompted him to come up to the kitchen and remove my trash/recycling bin; cut out the back panel of the bin cabinet; cut out the dry wall and determine that there were some nails apparently from an outside siding replacement 10 years ago that had penetrated the PVC drain pipe. So, he had to cut a section of the pipe out, confirming that the snake sections had broken off a couple of nails which allowed water to leak out and find a way down to the lower level ceiling. He had to go to Home Depot to purchase some replacement PVC drain pipe and a couple of compression brackets to patch the gap. This exercise added another $250 to the project. The plumber then opened a cutout in the major down drainage pipe in my utility room and found that the snake had come through. So, he pushed a 7' section of the snake back up the pipe and determined that he had "felt something" resisting the snake. Back to the kitchen and re-insert 7 sections of the snake. FINALLY, the plug gave way and we had drainage again. After an owner's $50 discount for 'military', I paid the $500 bill. Now, I'm searching for a handyman to come in and patch up the wallboard holes, repair the cabinet wall and repaint the patched areas. So, by the time this is done, I'm probably going over $750 for clearing a drain stoppage!
Response from Company:
We quickly responded to the call and informed the customer that we had k-50 kitchen snake machines that came with 7 foot cables able to reach greater distances at 1 flat rate price. Our technician snaked the drain multiple times encountering resistance. We are trained to then trace the run of the pipe looking for potential problem areas and inform customers ahead of time of any potential drywall damage. We then proceeded to cut exploratory holes at which time a leak was discovered. The back of the cabinet had to be cut in order to make the repair.Siding nails shot through the drainage pipe was determined to be the cause of the leak not a

1 Stop Mechanical was super responsive to an emergency plumbing leak that I had. They communicated everything throughout the entire process. I was very pleased with the service, felt the price was very fair, and that they didn't gouge me for an emergency.
