Write a ReviewI have rarely been treated so badly or been left so disappointed in my entire life. I hired Handy Andy for miscellaneous repairs. My expectations were for the typical "good contractor" qualities: Dependability, competence & knowledge, timeliness, reasonable work ethic, and general human decency/respect. Well, Andy was very personable over the phone and appeared competent. Every concern I mentioned he confidently indicated he could address with ease. He also directed me towards re-prioritizing to the most critical repairs first. I listened to his recommendations as a professional and was excited about finding what I thought would be a long term dependable contractor for my maintenance needs. As it turned out, he was a huge disappointment and in the end I just wanted him to be done and in the past. He did not show up on time or at all on multiple occasions, nor did he call in advance when his plans changed, and he even lied about showing up at one point! It was extremely inconvenient accommodating him, and would have been impossible without being at home full time. When the work was close to complete, he began to become belligerent about my viewing the work, saying that it was not necessary for me to see the final work, and he became aggressive about paying him. While I expected neat and complete work, he provided sloppy and incomplete work. Trees which were supposed to be trimmed in the front of the house, for example, to 2 feet away from the house are still touching the house! Paint on repaired exterior trim is sloppy to the point of embarrassment. This is only a sampling of what went wrong. In the end, he tried justifying the unfinished and inferior work and offered to come back out, but he had become so belligerent that I absolutely did not want him coming back to my house at that point because he had fallen apart to the point that it was scary. So instead of a reasonably decent contractor, Handy Andy ended up being a big talking, undependable, beligerant, and aggressive yahoo who performs sloppy and incomplete work - not who you want in and around your property, again, who fell apart to the point it was scary and I just wanted to settle up with him and have him in the past and away from my house. It is staggering that he has so many good reviews and I thought I’d done my due diligence before hiring him, but this is not the the experience I had with him. At all. Perhaps because I am a woman and he thought he could just intimidate me? Who knows? In any case, in addition to major scheduling difficulties, he fell apart, did sloppy and incomplete work, became aggressive and beligerant, and was overall an extremely bad hire. Move on to the next contractor on the list.
Gentle readers, please pray for this poor troubled soul! As Paul Harvey used to say, "now for the rest of the story!" Our guys and I went out of our way to take care of Ms. Nessy D. [Consumer name withheld at their request]. The last few years haven't been kind to her. Job losses forced her to turn her personal home into a rental and repairs had been let go for years. None of what she writes here is true. The tree she mentions is a crype myrtle and it should have been pruned further back but we were doing this at the wrong time of the year. Nessy saw the way we trimmed it and understood and agreed that to trim more would harm the tree. She may not remember it though! Once we got up on ladders, we discovered a ton more in rotted wood and needed repairs. When we told her she started crying that she couldn't afford to do more. The crew and I ended up doing all of her extra repairs at NO COST TO HER! The reality on this project is that the business didn't make a dime on it and she is all set to be able to repaint the house next year. We were paid to trim a tree in the front yard but ended up trimming trees on all 4 sides of her home - the rest was for FREE. A tree company would have charged her 10Xs what we did. Another tree had been let go for years and had taken several rows of shingles off the roof - yup, we fixed all of that too at no charge! We didn't repaint the exterior trim. The house needed to repaint several years ago. All we did was touch-up where we could and repaint the replacement pieces. The house needs to be repainted. It's sad to have something like this happen. When we met her, we asked her to consider joining us in the office and she asked us to keep the position open while she thought about it. Look at it this way, sometimes things don't work out. but all of our many 4.5 and 5 star ratings can't be wrong. Communication at times is not our strong suit and we tell all of our clients that up front. The only issue we had with the work was working with the tenant to get in and prime and paint a ceiling. With weather and other jobs, we had a hard time getting back to finish the ceiling but the tenant was never put out by us nor sitting around waiting for us. I never tried to justify any unfinished work. I offered to meet Nessy and walk the job together as I am in Chestnut Hill regularly for work. I really never had any trouble with Nessy until it came time to pay! Then she disappeared for several days and finally sent me a text back that "the husband" needed to see the work. The outside work had been completed for weeks, the renter had already told both of us that the ceiling looked great so my aggressiveness was: "Geesh. Everything has been done for weeks including all the extra stuff we didn't charge for. Can we just settle up?" That's aggressive? I have all the text messages and video to back everything up. She wanted us to cut and patch a ceiling to make it perfect when it wasn't part of our job.
Great group of guys. Andy videoed the outside of the house to show problem areas. Weather did not want to work with them but they made the best of it!
Simply amazing people to work with! Glad to be a part of the family. We are blessed with wonderful workers, true craftsmen as your home can now attest to. Once you saw the video, you were able to understand how much more work was required. See you in the spring to repaint it: https://youtu.be/fq57OGdif_g
Glad I called his company, he pointed out things I never realized or saw. His crew was the nicest and very professional. More than I can say for other handyman companies I've used before. I will certainly use HandyAndy in the future and recommend his company to my neighbors and friends.
The man was informative, polite and just a nice person to do business with.
Sam was excellent to work with and no money was required until the job was finished to my satisfaction
A great crew. All the work was very well done. They took their time to get it all right. Also they pointed out other trouble areas that needed fixing. Highly recommend these guys!
Hired HandyAndy to do a checklist of maintenance on our home: replace some rotten fascia and soffit boards, along with some deck boards, cleaned and sealed our gutters and replaced a section of gutter, and replaced vent boots on our roof. The crew did a great job--very skilled--and also cleaned up every day so I could hardly tell they had been there. Definitely plan to use them again for additional projects. I know they stay pretty busy . . . I wasn't in a rush for my job, but I would say the quality and workmanship is worth the wait.
I am very pleased with the work Andy's crew did for me.
Very good work
