You will get a solid commitment when selecting this Architect. Resourceful, knowledgeable, responsive & very excited about making sure the end result is what you want. We are in our final stages and are so grateful to work with Mitch and his team. We can’t wait to have a finished project we call home. If it wasn’t for all the input, patience & ideas that JWB brought to the table we wouldn’t be thus far. More to come!!!

I just dont think I am getting the support that I should. I did not take that it would take 4 months to have some drawings made.

I hired JWB architects to design a new home build. This is the first time Iâ ve built a custom home and with the assistance and knowledge of John and his team we are now underway of building our dream home. John definitely has the knowledge to help take the thoughts and dreams that we had and put it into reality and with lots of patience of my constant changes and budget.

    Response from Company:

We just read your review, Thornn and thank you for the kind words! You and Sue were a pleasure to work with. The vision is starting to come into focus now that the house is coming out of the ground. Thank you for your trust in our teams ability to design and build your forever home. It is a grand estate and one you should forever be proud of. Looking forward to the completion of the dream with the build! You are in great hands!

This review serves more as a warning to any one wanting to use this company (the builder working with JWB Architect). We used HomeAdvisor to start our search and JWB was one of the appealing options on architect search results. We spoke and met with several architects including Mitch from JWB. Mitch took the time to meet with us on our future home site. He had a lot of vision and excitement and was the sole reason we moved forward with JWB. At the end of the day I am guessing Mitch was just a headhunter for clients, After signing the contract, he turned us over to John Burt Jr, the actual architect. Based on selling points from Mitch and reading reviews how John Jr visited the future home sites (one review states several times he visited to help with understanding layout of the land, best placement so as not to disturb live oaks and give the best views possible). With an 8-acre plot this was a major appeal. We did not get this kind of service (perhaps because it was not a home with an elevator). John Jr did do an excellent job of understanding our verbal description of layout and natural surroundings, but it was disappointing he never came out to truly understand the layout and views of the land. To be clear We did not have a bad experience with JWB. John Burt Jr displayed an incredible amount of patience, professionalism, and was very responsive throughout the whole design process. However, we went into contract with the lure and appeal of a cohesive relationship between architect and builder that would, as they state: work side by side during the design and construction process. This was far from the truth. After being turned over from the architect phase to the building phase was when issues started. We reached out to John Jr for assistance when we were having complications with design changes. His father simply did not understand the changes we were requesting. John Burt Jr. did assist us in making our desired changes clearer to his father, however, told us via email that his design services concluded the minute we applied for a permit. He made it clear that if we continued to seek help, he would have to look into additional compensation as he was only doing favors and should be charging us extra for making changes. It was during this time that we discovered there was an error with the south elevation. The design changes we wanted could not be executed because, according to the GC, the architect. At this point it is hard to understand who messed up what anymore, but I would probably venture to guess it was another mistake on the construction end. After spending $12K for custom home plans a part of me expected that the plans would ve been corrected for our personal records. No attempt was made to offer a correction to the south side elevation drawings/plans. I feel we were given a lot of lip service and verbal assurance that we would have support and guidance through changes that we would make through our custom home building process. There was a level of expectation that was not met and left us on our own to battle out continuous issues with the builder as it was made very clear that we were on our own, as it turned out, minor design issues with the plans. I understand mistakes, but do not understand how it can be justified to charge a client for your design/build team errors. The financial burden landed on our shoulders to cover the repair costs i.e. kitchen pendant light located too close to cabinet door (door swing would result in hitting light) pendant lights had to be relocated and we were charged for the architect and/or the builders miscalculations in the builders final bill. Providing our selection of tub, but the cost to install it was never figured into the scope of work These issues should fall solely on the builder, but JWB unfortunately becomes guilty.
