Write a ReviewI inherited a hopeless mobile home, and thought I would have to demolish it, but Monark came in and worked with me to plan, completely gut it reworking subfloors, floors, walls, plumbing, electrical, and more. I now live at this safe and beautiful property and will be using them for the outdoor reno when I get to that phase, as well as the home I'll be selling since I've moved here. This was a miraculous end-result the neighbors never thought possible, and by the way 4.5 stars is my 'perfect' score but I have to give Monark a 5 based merely on the complexity of this project
Monark always went above and beyond and finished our lovely home ahead of schedule and on budget in the middle of the pandemic and lockdowns.
Preston and his team were great to work with on our project. We fully renovated a home and made it a recording studio - so our project was pretty complicated and not all the design decisions were made before we started - but Prestonâ s team was very willing to help us figure it out along the way. They were creative, and hard working, and though it did take a little longer to complete than we expected (again - we were designing this thing as we went), what we now have is beautiful and special and Iâ d recommend Monark to anyone.
We had an extremely unsatisfactory experience working with Monark Builders to build our custom home. For context, here are some of the major issues we had while Monark attempted to build our home: 1. This builder did NOT pay some of his subs! - We (the homeowner) received at least four liens or lien notices on our property because Monark did not pay subcontractors with construction loan draws. 2. Lack of Experience and Competence Lack of quality work: - Monark hired an unlicensed plumber resulting in undiagnosed water leaks due to not completing an air pressure test. - This resulted in black mold growing in our brand-new home requiring remediation in 4 rooms. Lack of inspections - Subcontractor work was not inspected and ultimately not completed to required building code standards. - We were told Monark would pay for an inspection for every subcontractor. However, post-termination, we hired a 3rd-party inspection company, which found over 60 significant violations at the property. We have been forced to pay for all the corrections and rework on this project out of our pocket. Lack of planning: - Monark failed to meet many deadlines. Every date that was promised was missed. - We ultimately terminated Monark seventeen months after our foundation was poured, and our house was still incomplete. - They ran through a 12-month construction loan, a loan extension, and an additional 60-day escrow period, and they were STILL unable to complete the project. Lack of transparency: - We often received conflicting and inconsistent budget spreadsheets and were often told that Monark could not provide the full details behind subcontractor quotes, invoices, material costs, and other essential project accounting. Lack of hands-on experience: - There were many issues that highlighted a lack of experience when building custom, residential home - Notably, they were forced to re-order cabinet doors and drawer faces for the kitchen and butlers pantry TWICE because they measured wrong, TWICE. And then told us they could not pick up the third order from the supplier because they were out of funds. 3. Overall failure to follow its business practices: - Monark did not follow contract guidelines during the building process and never issued a single change order, a process clearly outlined in our contract, ultimately attempting to recoup costs by creating change orders after the fact. - Monark refused to complete the home unless the final draw on the construction loan was issued in advance of the work. We had a very unpleasant experience with Monark, and want others to be aware of this experience while they are evaluating potential general contractors for future projects.
