The House Doctor

I hired House Doctor (Richard Atkins) through Home Advisor last year to do a refinishing job for my kitchen cabinets in a house I just bought. The cabinets were original from its 1983 construction and were an ugly blonde color. The previous owners had installed new wood flooring and granite counter tops and they did not complement the cabinets at all so we had to get them done. Richard came over for an estimate a few weeks before the job and he is awesome! Very friendly and straightforward, I thought I knew what type of finish I wanted but he was able to provide me with an excellent recommendation as an alternative (Espresso) and I am glad we did that instead, he has a great eye! He also recommended adding crown molding to the cabinets which I am also very glad we did, made a huge difference! The job took one week and was done by Richard and his assistant Glen who is also a great guy and a very skilled worker. They did it while I was at work during the days and they treated my house with care and kept everything clean. The finished product is incredible, I am not sure how to post pictures on these reviews but if you talk to Richard, ask him to show you the before and after pictures for the house cabinets he did in Annandale in Oct. 2016. Richard is excellent with customer service, I was able to keep in touch with him through text message throughout the job and he was always very quick with his replies. The only small issue we had was a small crack in part of the crown molding that occurred after the wood had settled for a couple weeks, but it was no problem at all because Richard came right back over a few days after we noticed and he repaired it with no extra charge or hassle. Overall House Doctor is worth 5 stars all the way through, I highly recommend their cabinet work!

Perfect in every way. Not only do the cabinets look fresh from the factory, but customer service was excellent from the initial estimate to completion. Texts were returned and questions answered promptly. Work completed on schedule and on budget. Richard and Glenn are total professionals. Highest recommendation.

Richard did an outstanding job painting/refinishing my kitchen and laundry room cabinets. He is conscientious, has excellent attention to detail and is a perfectionist. Richard did an amazing job on my Kitchen Cabinets. As in all projects there were some challenges, but none he could not deal with. On time, set expectations and delivered. I had some additional request and he was able to complete them. I was skeptical that it would look good without heavy brush marks. They look Brand New. They spray system he uses leaves a beautiful Furniture finish. There are not many that doe this work but Richard does it extremely well. If you are thinking about changing the look of your home without replacement Hire RIchard. Amazing Job

He was very professional followed through in a timely manner. Did a great job with recommendations and following through. We had a situation come up and he did an excellent job in dealing with unforeseen issues that came up .

Richard did an amazing job painting my cherry cabinets white. Not only do the cabinets look fantastic, I found Richard to be professional, courteous and he kept to his timeline even with the pending blizzard. I would highly recommend Richard to anyone considering his services.

From start to finish this was a great experience. We priced many options to give our kitchen a fresh/new look and having our 20yr old cabinets cleaned and painted by Richard was by far the most reasonably priced option. Richard was very professional, kept to his promised time table, showed great attention to detail and left the kitchen spotless when done...he did a fantastic job and our kitchen looks brand new!! Could not be happier with the experience and outcome...highly recommended.
