Write a ReviewFirst - a little history... Our house had the unfortunate problem of FLOODING in our FINISHED basement (drywalled TV room, bedroom, etc) when we had a long rain. Therefore, we hired a company (Groundworks) to come in and install French drains into the concrete basement floors, install vapor shields along ALL along the PERIMETER of the house in the basement. This required Jack hammering the concrete floor, installing the drainage, fancy sump pump, and also tearing down ALL of the finished drywall and the drywall framing. They got the work done. They did a good job. But, then, the work that we needed to get done was to have our basement FULLY RESTORED. We solicited Home Advisor's services to get 3+ bids. One of which was Unique Paint & Drywall. I'll call it "UPW" from here on. UPWs bid came in competitively LOWER than almost all the others, there was 1 other bid that was also competitive, but what we liked about UPW was their courtesy, professionalism, and the Owner REALLY appeared to "KNOW HIS STUFF"! The Owner (Tony) is a real stand-up guy! He took the time to listen to what we desired we wanted done to our basement, and then went on to execute doing/completing the job EXACTLY to our satisfaction! The TASKs that we needed UPW to do was to as follows: 1: Install ALL NEW FRAMING for the torn down drywall (they needed to use LIQUID NAILS to ATTACH the framing to the "re-concreted" floors along the PERIMETER of the basement). 2: Install all NEW ELECTRICAL WIRING all along the framing. These guys even REMOVED the OLD wiring, and installed ALL NEW wiring, outlets, switches, etc.). 3: Install NEW drywall. 4: Have the NEW drywall BLEND IN with the CURRENT drywall of the inner rooms and basement ceiling. 5: RESTORE our basement's drywalls to their ORIGINAL TEXTURE to MATCH the walls in the INNER rooms that were NOT torn down. 6: As an "extra", Tony even INSTALLED NEW DRYWALL in a couple of rooms that didn't have it (washroom, storage room), AND installed a little DRYWALLED PRAYER ROOM for the WIFE (we're Christians) that has an ARCHED entryway. Sorry for the long description, but I just felt that I should really elaborate on the work that this company did so that whoever reads this really has a good idea on what to expect when calling on this contractor. My suggestion: HIRE THEM!
Tony was very responsive and upfront with the cost and timeframe needed to complete the job. The quality and quickness which with the job was completed was great.
They took up the job quick and got it wrapped up just as quick and on time.
great job!
I had to spend an additional $1,800 to have a professional drywall contractor redo the mess left by UP and D. And now I have to either re-seal/paint the walls myself or hire yet another contractor. UP and D has no business working drywall. They installed vertically instead of horizontally and did not sand their topping compound leaving humps that made the walls look like a zebra. Virtually no cleanup was done and there was drywall compound and/or paint on a number of furniture items. As a matter of decency, UP and D should refund at least 50% of the $7,000 that was stolen from me. UP and D will not respond to messages in any way, showing just what kind of business they are conducting. I DO NOT recommend using UP and D for any work whatsoever!!
Prompt. Said what he would do. Cleaned up afterward. Gave an idea of what the drywall cure time would be for painting afterward. Would use them again.
Good at drywall but made a large mess of the area, including painting over outlets and filling the holes with paint. Hard to pin down timing. Re-installed baseboards that immediately came undone and never fixed them. Left carpeting in bad condition. Expensive for the quality.
Tony is very competent as a drywaller & painter. He repaired a large opening in the ceiling next to a light fixture which was tricky. He was very concerned that it was done to my satisfaction. He was easy to work with & did a great job.
They really were great painters. The plaster work is messy and difficult to have in a finished home. However they did a wonderful job . The finished product was worth the mess.
Quick and efficient! Was able to help me within a day. Very nice father, son team. Thank you!
