Contact by phone was very professional and courteous. A person was sent right away to assess the situation and the work was done the following day - very timely! Worker was very friendly and knowledgeable. The only thing that I wasn't happy about was that they needed a $125 payment to just come out and assess. Though it was applied to the final payment, it would have not been refunded if we chose to go with a different vendor. That amount seems pretty high for an estimate.

This guy uses a "diagnosis" fee in order to force people into not getting competitive bids. He values his time extremely high at a level of C-Level Executives -- the "diagnosis" was 10 minutes -- $125 for 10 minutes of time. His argument back is that this comes off the bill "if" you use him and the fact of the matter is that this is an obscene hostage fee in order to guarantee you have no choice but to use him. His price was nearly double of an estimate we got about 6 months ago but the poor fellow died so we came to HomeAdvisors. Keen alleges that he does this to keep people from using him free estimates and going with the lowest bidder to "prequalify" the buyer, when in fact it's to ensure someone is in deep enough to have to pay his price. I am not one to go with the lowest estimate because I want quality work myself, but I found myself so offended at what this guy values 10 minutes of his time at that the remaining $50K in work that he is definitely qualified to do like roofing, remodeling, pocket doors, etc. will go to someone who doesn't use tricks like this. His receptionist claimed the $125 was to pay the guy who came out to "diagnose" ... hmmm .. no way that guy got $125. Anyway, the point here is that for me, the give me the diagnosis fee in cash or on a credit card before I will even set an appointment is just a bit arrogant and it cost him the remainder of my business. I am glad I don't treat my clients this way. Be honest, be fair, and don't use tricks. The rest will come around.
