It turned out to be more expensive than I anticipated (based on circular ads for garage doors that I've seen), but I liked the technician enough to go with Precision anyway. The technician also came back a couple of days later to take out some shelves that were an obstacle and that I would have had to hire a handyman to deal with. No extra charge.

He thoroughly inspected and explained to my wife what was causing the problems and indicated the door was improperly installed by the homebuilder's contractor. He filled out a safety checklist and performed the required repair to make it work safely for the time being. He made two suggestions for improved garage door service and priced each for our information. He charged less than the hourly rate for the time he was there. I suspect we will use them for future service / installations for our garage door / opener.
