Excellent service

This is a re-post because my original review seems to be missing. I had a short section of iron pipe that ran from my furnace to the circulator for the SuperStor hot water tank. I would have to replace a nipple, elbow, close nipple and the flange that mated to the circulator. It had been leaking very slowly for a while and it was time to replace it. I purchased the parts and was going to do it myself. It was about time for the annual cleaning and service for the furnace, and I had noticed that the main circulator seemed to be running all the time. At that point, I figured I would have someone come in who could do it all. My oil company techs could not make it for a while, so I went to HomeAdvisor, made a detailed list of the three tasks that had to be done, then I talked to 3 contractors who responded from HomeAdvisor. Heritage was the most expensive, but they could do the work sooner, so I had them come in to look at the job. We went down to the furnace, I showed the tech the leak and the parts that I had bought to fix the leak. We went back upstairs; he went out into his truck a couple of times and came back in with a Tablet. He gave me a price of $800, which was hundreds above what the others thought it would be, but he was there. He handed me the tablet, asked me to read it and then sign it. Since I am in my 70s, my eyes are not as good as they once were, and I did not have any reading glasses with me. I asked the tech to read it to me and he told me all it says is that you will pay the bill. Believing what he said, I signed the tablet. My mistake. We went downstairs and he proceeded to fix the short section of pipe. He then put his tools away and started to leave. I asked him about the rest of the work that was on the list and he said there was no other work on his list that I had signed. I told him that I had provided a complete list and that was the list that had to be completed before I would pay the $800. At this point he became somewhat abusive, left, went to his truck, came back after a while and offered a discount of about $100. I told him that unless all the work was completed, I would not be paying him anything. I told him the company could either complete the work, make a deal with me about a more substantial discount or they would have to take me to court, and I was quite willing to do any of the three. At this point an hour and 15 minutes had passed, so he wanted me to pay $800 for 1.25 hours of work, or $640 per hour. Later, I had called HomeAdvisor and had them read back my original project description just to confirm that all the work was listed. HomeAdvisor also confirmed that Heritage did have access to that list and should have known what was involved. Now, just to be clear, I was satisfied with the work that the tech did do. My problem is with the business practices of the company which to me are not what they should be. Why did the company send a tech out without all the information? Was it on purpose or just sloppy management? Later, I did negotiate a larger discount just to put this behind me. I think their pricing is exorbitant, but they get to set the rates. I am OK with that, how else are they going to pay for all those TV ads we have been seeing. But they need to do all the work submitted to HomeAdvisor if Heritage wants to work and provide a valid service. I guess the lesson from this might be: caveat emptor.

The guys I worked with to complete a wiring project (new baseboard heater installation including new wiring) were outstanding! Definitely going to bring them back to replace our existing breaker box as a result of my experience working with them.

Heritage was excellent. They came out and gave a reasonable quote and performed the work right then. The plumber was easy to work with and cleaned up after the job. Straight forward, no surprises.

Rude. Claimed I lied in explanation of situation. I showed what I wrote but he claimed that it was not what I wrote. Even rude before he showed up on the phone
