Hired him as he is rated 4/5 in Home Advissor. But I doubt about his expertise in washing machine. Instead of fixing my washer, he almost broke it. I did homework on YouTube video which detailed how to fix the on/off button of my washer model. The button is loose on connection to the electric panel behind the cover. I could not do it myself as I am a small female and I cannot lift off the dryer stacked on top of it in order to open up the cover. I communicated this fact with him over phone. He was responsive and able to came the second day, which is a second reason why I hired him. After he played with the buttons, he claimed that I needed to replace the electric panel after I asked several time if he could try to fix the button connection first. He insisted that the panel needed to be replaced and was not even willing to try to open the machine up. He also told me YouTube didn't tell people everything. After given the quote of several hundred dollars for repair (including a quote of $300 to replace the rubber seal and another couple hundred to replace the electric panel), I told him I would purchase another machine instead of repair. Then he said Hold On and tried to pull the plastic button cover out. So he was the expert there and I was not sure how much I should trusted the YouTube at the time. He seemed to have trouble pulling out the buttons (which is designed to be not going out I believe), so I gave him the permission to break the buttons to see behind since he claimed the machine was dead anyways. He broke it and the panel showed. He was able to turn the machine on directly from the panel but the timing of the washing cycles was goofed. The timing was fine before the button connection was lost. I said restarting the machine may fix it. He said Good Luck and did not try it. Then he got paid and left. After he left, I restarted the machine and it worked well, except that the button covers are fractured. So my guess is that if he did what YouTube said, this would have been an easy fix. He perhaps did not want to lift the machine. Or he perhaps wanted to scam me for more money on the repair by claiming the problem was more serious. He might kind of broke the panel when he broke the button covers, and therefore the timing was off for a moment. Thank god nothing else serious was broken by him, or I would really have to buy a new machine. So long story short, I would try Sears and other big name repair next time, though their appointment has a long waiting list. I have used many repairman, there are good ones and bad ones. It is just too much work to sort this out. Big name gives a peace of mind though they charge a bit more.

Ken is an experienced, knowledgable appliance technician. He provided a quick and authoritative diagnosis of my dishwasher problem (clogging due to lime buildup) and recommended a simple solution (vinegar infusions). the cost was very reasonable -- just the minimum estimate fee of $75, creditable towards the cost of a rebuild if the simple solution doesn't work.
